Sherwin-Williams 2017 Color of the Year

And The Winner Is…

The Sherwin-Williams color of the year for 2017 is Poised Taupe. This is, admittedly, not the most exciting name. Poised brings to mind a coiled spring or the breath before the charge. Taupe, on the other hand, elicits everything from a yawn to confusion (just ask your husband what color taupe is). So the name, Poised Taupe, sends us into a sort of loop of curiosity. And when you look at the color, you realize the name is perfect!

Take a look at the sample below. Computer monitors can hardly do the color justice. Don’t think of it as just another gray – it is so much more than that!

Poised Taupe

The combination of a conservative gray with the mere hint of warm brown creates a timeless, neutral shade that can be paired easily with modern decors. Just imagining a kitchen with rich wood textures or an entryway with alabaster accents brings excitement to areas normally dominated with stark whites. We foresee this color finding its way into a wide variety of design palettes because of its universal appeal, neutral tendencies, and its desire to see colors around it pop!

We would love to hear about a project you have in mind! Whether you are interested in the subtle play of whites and creams or just love loud explosions of color, at Ida York Design Group, we know how to use color to bring out the very best in your space.
