5 Tips to Create Unique Floral Arrangements in Portland
Summer is finally upon us! At Ida York Design Group we aspire to bring the bright and vibrant colors of summer inside through unique floral arrangements. Here are 5 tips for creating beautiful floral arrangements in your home.
1. Looking in the Right Places
You can find a vibrant array of flowers hiding in plain sight. The perfect bunch doesn’t need to come from a florist or even the Saturday Market, but rather your own yard. Some common plants that grow wildly in the Portland Metro Area are: Trillium, Wild Rose, Irises, and violets are just a few of the common flowers that grow freely in Oregon. For an extensive guide to the flora and fauna of Oregon check out Portland Nursery for more information.
2. Keep it Simple
Not every flower arrangement has to include a large amount of color. You can achieve a subdued look by using more ferns or grasses in your arrangement. The Sword Fern or the Lady Fern are a simple addition to any arrangement.
3. Add Something Unusual
You deserve a home that reflects your style in every aspect, including your flower arrangements. That being said, add a little bit of your personality in that flower arrangement! Maybe a colorful ribbon, feathers, or your fabric or paper around the stem. Anything can add an extra dose of personality to a seemingly ordinary flower arrangement.
4. Use an Unusual Vase
The typical glass cylinder vase is classic, looks great with ever decor, and is always in style. But if your craving a more unusual vessel here are a few suggestions. A teacup, jar, basket, tin, lantern, or even a watering can be a functional vessel and liven up any flower arrangement.
5. Be Attentive
While it’s easy to let your flowers fade into the background, don’t forget to give them some tender love and care every few days. To keep your flower arrangement looking fresh don’t forget to trim away any dead leaves or flower buds. This will help the overall health and appearance of your plant. Below is an example of what not to do.
