What a night! Our office is finally done and it was a pleasure to celebrate with our new community. So many people turned out for our ribbon cutting party, and we even got to actually cut a ribbon with giant scissors! Catering was courtesy of Olivia Simpson and it was delicious as were the cupcakes and cake from Sweet Pea Bakery in Portland. In addition to clients, our friends turned out from BNK, DT Glass, Goldsmith and Co, Artheads, FSM Furniture, Photo Media, Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Doug Klein, Velvet Cicadia, Laura Janes Fine Art, Stephens Homes, Sargent Design Works, Window Covering Solutions and more.
NEW LAKE OSWEGO OFFICE
This is our third office move since we’ve been in Portland. The cool thing is that this is the first office we were able to design ourselves. Previously, it was a 30+ year old dental office. Located in the basement of the building, there were many walls chopping up the space. We gutted it.
What we Love
The new space is full of light with eight 8′ x 4′ windows. These big beautiful windows will spoil us with light during the sunny months. However, as we live in the NW, we had to plan for dark months, so our office is equipped with both incandescent warm light at 2700K and standard office LED light at 3500K. This allows us to see sample colors in the correct light depending on the project. If we are working on residential, we have lights for that and if we are working on commercial, we have correct lighting for that as well.
The Perfect Size
One way to get there was a serious conversation about our library. Our previous library was huge. It was nearly half the size of the 1400 SF office we inhabited. This new office library is about 150sf. We cleaned out vendors who were difficult to work with or who didn’t have the product we really needed and often used. Our new library is less than 1/4 the size of our last library but it has about 1/2 the product we used to keep on hand, however, it’s better organized.
Our last office was chopped up into private offices. That was not very conducive to the way we work. So, we created this space to have an open work area. The conference room opens in two directions to my personal office and the open work area further encouraging a collaborative environment.
Product Information: Here’s the skinny on the products we used in our renno. Our carpet is a hospitality grade carpet from Masland. The conference room has an awesome dry erase, magnetic, and projectable wall covering from our vendor Koreseal. LVT flooring seen throughout is a European product called Creations by Gerflor. Look up, and chekc out the lighting. Its made in the USA from Barn Light Electric maker of retro light fixtures. Our Contractor was Brokamp and Jaeger of Oregon City. The move and renovation took about 5 months, but we had fun getting to work on our own project and now we get to say “I love our space!” too.
